Karachi residents have experienced a series of low-intensity earthquakes over the past 24 hours with three light tremors reported, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The most recent earthquake struck on Monday measured 3.2 on the Richter scale with its epicentre located in the densely populated Quaidabad area. The same area felt a slightly stronger tremor of 3.6 magnitude at 5:33pm just a day earlier. Another tremor was recorded near Gadap Town today at around 1:05 am also measuring 3.2 with a depth of 12 kilometers.
All these earthquakes were shallow and originated at depths between 10 and 12 kilometers.
According to the Seismic Monitoring Centre, the earthquake tremors were felt in parts of Karachi including Landhi, Malir, Quaidabad, and Port Qasim at 11.03 in the morning on Monday.

Ameer Hyder Chief Meteorologist at the Karachi Met Office stated that these tremors are linked to an active fault line in the Landhi area. He noted that while the quakes are minor and their intensity is slowly declining, no formal prediction can be made yet. However he expects the tremors may subside within a week if the current trend continues.
Experts have also said that such low intensity seismic activity can actually be beneficial as it helps release accumulated pressure within the tectonic plates of earth and potentially lowers the risk of more damaging earthquakes.
