Women often face harsh judgment when they get older in our society. Our people have a mindset that the true value of women lies in their young age. This mentality puts pressure on women, especially ones belonging to the entertainment industry. Many end up taking extreme measures just to look young.
Recently popular actress Zara Noor Abbas pointed out this perspective in an Instagram post. She described aging as a natural and beautiful truth. She urged women to stop depending on harmful medicines for weight loss or skin whitening.
Zara called such practices a form of drug abuse and warned how dangerous they can be. Instead, she encouraged women to focus on their minds and intelligence, saying, “Vanity is short-lived — work on your brain, that will last.”

Zara isn’t the only celebrity speaking up. In an interview with Fuchsia Magazine, actress Mehwish Hayat also highlighted how older female actors are often ignored for leading roles, while older male actors continue to star alongside much younger actresses without any issues. She said Pakistani cinema should start showing older women in positive and powerful roles — just like Hollywood does. According to Mehwish, real change must come from within, and female actors should accept and own their age with pride.
Similarly, Mahira Khan shared her experience in an interview with Independent Urdu. She said even her own mother warned her not to reveal her real age as an actor. But Mahira explained that being open about her age is part of staying true to herself. She said she won’t hide her real self just to fit others’ expectations.
Veteran actress Mahnoor Baloch also pointed out the unfair treatment in drama scripts. She said, “A male actor who is 55 can still be the hero, but a woman of the same age is made to play his mother.”
