LAHORE – The Punjab government has officially unveiled the installment plan and balloting schedule for the E-Taxi Scheme 2025, a flagship initiative designed to promote eco-friendly transportation and create employment opportunities across the province. The program is being hailed as a landmark step toward reducing air pollution and modernizing the public transport sector, particularly in urban centers.
Key Features of the E-Taxi Scheme
One of the most attractive aspects of this scheme is the interest-free installment plan. Through this initiative, drivers will be able to own electric taxis on easy monthly payments without the burden of additional financial charges. The scheme aims not only to make clean transportation more affordable but also to ensure long-term sustainability for professional drivers.
In its first phase, the government plans to distribute 1,100 electric taxis among selected candidates. This phase-wise approach is intended to ensure smooth implementation and effective monitoring of the scheme.
Types of Cars Offered
The Punjab E-Taxi Scheme will provide vehicles such as Honri Ve 2.0, Dongfeng Box, and other modern electric cars. All taxis under the scheme will be equipped with GPS tracking systems, smart meters, and official e-taxi branding, guaranteeing safe, transparent, and reliable services for passengers.
Eligibility Criteria
The program is open to all residents of Punjab who:
- Are 18 years or older
- Hold a valid driving license
- Have a clean banking record
Both men and women are encouraged to apply, as the scheme also aims to empower female drivers and promote gender inclusion in the transport sector.
Application and Balloting Process
The application process for the E-Taxi Scheme will officially begin in September 2025, with an online registration portal opening for applicants. Candidates will be able to submit their forms and upload required documents until October 2025.
Following this, the balloting and verification process will take place in November 2025. This stage will ensure that only eligible candidates are considered, with a transparent balloting system used to select the beneficiaries.
The distribution of taxis to successful applicants is scheduled to commence in December 2025, marking the launch of the scheme’s first operational phase.
Installment Plan Details
The government has also shared estimated financial details for the electric taxis:
- Total Price: Rs. 6–6.5 million
- Down Payment (30%): Rs. 1.8–2 million
- Bank Financing (70%): Rs. 4.5 million
- Estimated Monthly Installment: Around Rs. 60,000

Officials have emphasized that the E-Taxi Scheme will not only provide thousands of jobs for the youth but also significantly reduce vehicular emissions in Punjab’s major cities. By encouraging the use of electric vehicles, the government hopes to cut down air pollution levels and shift toward a cleaner, more sustainable transport system.
