دی Foreign Office (FO) has confirmed that Sweden has officially restarted its visa services in Islamabad. Pakistani citizens can once again apply for Schengen visas to visit Sweden for up to 90 days.
Sweden had earlier closed its embassy in Islamabad in April 2023 due to security concerns. The Swedish embassy at that time said it could not process visa requests or send documents to applicants, consulates or partner offices like Gerry’s. The embassy had explained that the safety of staff and applicants was its top priority.
However the embassy reopened in April 2025 and now visa services are back in action.
A high-level meeting between officials from Pakistan and Sweden was held in Stockholm on July 2. Sweden has finally agreed to restart its visa processing services for Pakistani applicants.
The Foreign Office in Islamabad described it as a positive sign that ties between the two countries are getting stronger.
The Pakistani team at the meeting was supervised by the Additional Foreign Secretary for Europe. While Sweden’s team was represented by the Director General for Global Affairs.
