In a strange and unfortunate moment during the third ODI between Pakistan and New Zealand on Saturday, batter Imam-ul-Haq had to leave the field after getting hit in the face.
It happened early in Pakistan’s innings while Imam was running between the wickets. A throw from a fielder struck the inside of his helmet grill and bounced up, hitting him hard on the jaw. The ball even got stuck in his helmet for a moment.
He dropped to his knees in pain and could not get up on his own. Medical staff rushed in and he was taken off the field in a vehicle. Then he was ruled out for the match with a concussion and taken to the hospital to be evaluated for a possible broken jaw.
Batting first at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand had made a score of 264 runs at the loss of 8 wickets. They were hoping to win the series 3-0. They have already won the previous matches in Napier and Hamilton.
