Kuwait Work Visa Guide for Pakistanis – August 2025

For many Pakistanis, Kuwait has slowly turned into a preferred place to work in the Gulf. A big reason many Pakistanis look toward Kuwait is the pay. Wages are tax-free, which means more money actually stays in your pocket. Add to that the decent perks most companies provide and the fact that life there is generally secure, it becomes an attractive option. It’s no surprise that each year a fresh wave of technicians, engineers, teachers and other professionals flies out hoping to build a better future.

Work in Kuwait isn’t tied to just one trade. Oil and gas still sit at the heart of the economy, but thousands of positions also open up in building projects, hospitals, schools and even small service jobs. Because of where Kuwait sits on the map, many see it as a stepping-stone—spend a few years there, then move on to other Gulf states if a better chance comes up.

The usual way to enter the job market is through a work visa (employment visa), which must be arranged by the hiring company. Unlike some other places, you cannot simply go on a visit visa and start working—having a sponsor inside Kuwait is a must.

Once you land with a work visa, there’s another important step: applying for the residency permit (Iqama). Without it, you can’t legally stay and continue working.

    Why Kuwait Attracts Pakistanis

No income tax – workers can save more money.

High demand for skilled people in different industries.

Extra benefits such as accommodation, medical cover, and travel allowance.

Safe environment and good quality of life.

Easy travel access to other Gulf states.

Eligibility for a Kuwait Work Visa (2025)

    To apply, you need to:

    • Have a valid job offer from a Kuwaiti employer.
    • Be at least 21 years old.
    • Pass a medical fitness test.
    • Match the qualifications required for your job.
    • Hold a clean police record.
    • Own a passport valid for at least six months.

Process to Apply for Kuwait Work Visa from Pakistan

    Get the job
First land a confirmed offer from a registered Kuwaiti employer. Only companies with permission/quotas can hire expats. Keep a copy of the signed offer/contract (job title, salary, company CR if available).

    Employer files the work permit
This part is on your employer. They submit your details in Kuwait to get the work permit approved. You’ll usually be asked for a passport copy, a few photos, and scanned education certificates.

     Approval and embassy intimation
When the permit is cleared, the Kuwaiti side forwards the approval to the Kuwaiti Embassy in Pakistan. Your employer will share the reference/approval info with you so you can move to the visa step.

    Medicals in Pakistan
Do the medical at a GAMCA-approved clinic (blood tests, X-ray, infectious diseases screening). Bring your original passport and photos. Keep extra photocopies—clinics often ask for them.

    Police Character Certificate
Get a police clearance showing no criminal record. Apply through your local police/CTD channel (follow your province’s process). Make sure your name matches the passport exactly; minor spelling issues can slow things down.

Visa application at the Kuwaiti Embassy (Pakistan)
Submit your file in one go. Typical bundle includes:

    • Filled visa application form
    • Passport (at least 6 months validity left)
    • Photos with white background
    • Job offer/Employment contract from your Kuwaiti employer
    • Educational certificates (attested: HEC → MOFA Pakistan → Kuwaiti Embassy)
    • Medical certificate (from the approved clinic)
    • Police clearance certificate

    Visa Approval
Once approved, the work visa will be stamped on your passport.

    Travel to Kuwait
Book your flight and carry all your documents with you.

    Residency (Iqama)
After arrival, another medical check is required. Once cleared, your employer will process your Civil ID (Iqama), which allows you to work and live in Kuwait.

Cost to Apply for Kuwait Work Visa

    • Visa fees: Around KWD 20–30
    • Medical test charges: Depend on the country
    • Police clearance: Cost varies by issuing authority

    Renewal of Kuwait Work Visa

    • Work visa is valid for single entry only.
    • Iqama is normally valid for 1–3 years, depending on your job contract.
    • Employers renew it as long as you are working.

Helpful Tips to Retain Kuwait Work Visa

    • Keep your passport valid for at least 6 months.
    • Carry copies of all documents.
    • Finish medical and police clearance early.
    • Stay in touch with your employer about progress.
    • Never let your Iqama expire – penalties are strict.

    Common Mistakes to Avoid

    • Applying without a proper job offer.
    • Submitting incomplete or fake documents.
    • Skipping medical checks.
    • Delaying the residency permit after landing.
