Google has officially launched Gemini 3, its newest and most advanced AI model suite. This version replaces Gemini 2.5, which was released earlier this year, and comes at a time when many are watching to see if Google can finally compete with ChatGPT in everyday use.
Gemini 3 is available now through AI Mode in Google Search for Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers, and it’s also rolling out in the Gemini app for all users. According to Sundar Pichai, Google’s CEO, Gemini 3 is “much better at understanding the context and intent of your requests,” so users can get answers with fewer prompts and less back-and-forth.
Smarter, Faster, and More Secure
Google calls Gemini 3 its most advanced multimodal AI yet, meaning it can handle text, images, video, audio, and code seamlessly. The first version, Gemini 3 Pro, is available in preview, while a more powerful version, Gemini 3 Deep Think, is still being tested and will be released later to AI Ultra users.
Google says Gemini 3 Pro outperforms Gemini 2.5 Pro on nearly every benchmark. The AI aims to give answers that are clear, concise, and useful, avoiding unnecessary filler. Deep Think is even smarter but takes slightly longer to provide answers due to its more detailed reasoning process.
Gemini 3 is also Google’s most secure AI yet. It has stronger safeguards against misuse, including better resistance to prompt injections, cyberattacks, and over-agreeable responses.
Fixing Past Problems
Earlier versions of Gemini sometimes struggled with memory and consistency in longer conversations. Gemini 3 improves this by remembering context, following ongoing chats, and understanding tasks without repeated reminders. It is also quicker to respond and does not lose accuracy, like ChatGPT 5.
The new version has more user intent understanding and can clarify questions when it requires lessening errors made due to misinterpretation. Its image and video interpretation is better too and provides more practical information rather than simple descriptions.
For example, it can analyze a workout posture or cooking steps more clearly.
Moving Toward a True Digital Assistant
While Gemini has always been called an assistant, it often acted like a smart search tool rather than completing real tasks. Gemini 3 is supposed to be able to deal with multi-step tasks, adjust to changes and eliminate errors without re-executing. Eventually, it would be able to organize trips, schedule, or plan projects, which would provide a real assistant experience, as Google has told.
These upgrades will see Gemini 3 being a major improvement in becoming a powerful and reliable digital assistant that can still compete with ChatGPT in day-to-day activities.
