The Safe City Authority has declared the official e-challan SMS number to be used by the people to receive their traffic fine notification. Henceforth, the authentic e-challan messages will be sent only by 9915.
According to a spokesperson of Safe City, this measure is to ensure that citizens are not victimized by frauds and spam. Some alerts have been posted by the government number 8070 before, however there are no longer multiple numbers applied in the verification and safety of the government in the Safe City.
What Is the Official E-Challan SMS Number?
The official number of e-challan SMS is 9915, according to the officials of the Safe City. In case you get any e-challan message in a different number, it is to be handled as suspicious.
The authority was categorical that it does not send any message via any other number other than 9915. This assists individuals to recognize authentic messages and evade fraud.
Warning About Fake E-Challan Messages
Citizens are advised not to trust random messages claiming to be from traffic police. Many scammers send fake fines and ask people to click links or make payments.
Safe City also clarified that it never asks for:
- Bank account details
- Card numbers
- OTP codes
- Direct online payments through SMS
In case a message requests this information, it does not belong to the official number of e-challan SMS.
How to Stay Safe from E-Challan Scams
In order to be on the safe side, always verify the sender before making any action. Messages that are 9915 should be the only valid ones.
Do not ever click on the links on messages that seem suspicious and always do not use your personal or financial details. To be on the safer side, one would never respond to the unknown SMS messages but would always consult the official channels of Safe City.
