The Sindh cabinet has passed the Sindh Agriculture Women Workers Rights in a historic and first of its kind undertaking in Pakistan. This is a new landmark creation that aims at safeguarding the rights of female workers in the province who are working in the areas of farming, livestock and fisheries.
The new rules with the support of theInternational Labor Organization (ILO) are designed to formalize the agricultural sector in favor of women to ensure that they get fair pay, basic health cover and safe working conditions.
This is a full list of the new labor regulations, education changes and other major decisions undertaken by the provincial cabinet that are approved.
Historic Benefits for Women in Agriculture
Senior Minister of Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon pointed out that these are a giant step towards giving due credit to the massive contribution of women into the agricultural sector.
The new set of rules approved will grant the women working in agriculture the rights to receive:
Equal Wages: Women should be given equal wages to work on agriculture as their male counterparts.
Maternity Benefits: The benefits offer financial and health assistance to the pregnant mothers in the fields.
Insurance against Harassment: Implementing stringent rules in order to maintain a safe and secure working environment.
Benazir Women Agriculture Workers Card: A special identification and benefits card to facilitate the access to the government-provided support.

Educational Reforms: Launch of SAMRS
Besides the reforms in the agricultural sector, the cabinet also passed a significant digital upgrade in the provincial education sector. The Student Attendance Monitoring and Redress System (SAMRS) is being introduced by the government.
This e-services platform is aimed at strictly monitoring attendance in schools and enrolment of students. SAMRS will also take an active track in tracking student absenteeism and initiating supportive measures that will be of help like professional counseling and peer support. The officials foresee a full implementation of the system to all the schools in Sindh in the coming year.
