In a further bid to ensure that civic services are available to every citizen, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced that it will use its mobile registration vans to remote regions throughout the country.
Reports have it that these mobile units will be operational in remote parts between April 6 and April 11, 2026. The program is specifically aimed at delivering vital identity and registration services to the residents living long distances away from permanent NADRA centers where geographical distance should not be considered an obstacle towards civic engagement.
The official NADRA site allows one to check the specific schedule and exact locations of their respective areas.
Expanding NADRA’s Regulatory Powers
Although the introduction of mobile vans should make it more accessible, NADRA also tries to enhance its control authority.
Recently the Senate Standing Committee on Interior passed a very important government bill aimed at giving NADRA more authority to control identity documents and strengthening national security systems. The bill is expected to pass into the next Senate session where it is expected to be passed in order to become law as proposed by the Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar at the request of the Interior Ministry.
NADRA’s Key Proposed Amendments
According to the proposed law, NADRA will have the power to freeze any Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) for up to 60 days without giving any notice.
The officials of the Interior Ministry stressed that the CNIC is a very sensitive document, which is directly related to national security and financial prosperity. They cautioned that identity misuse documents are a great danger. In the past, there were no clear legal provisions that could have enabled NADRA to act promptly, as this gave the criminal elements room to utilize legal loopholes and postpone the process.
According to these changes, the authorities reckon that NADRA will be in a position to take decisive action when dealing with suspicious, fraudulent or compromised identity records.
NADRA E-Sahulat Expansion
NADRA has also made its services accessible greatly to the population via its e-Sahulat franchise network in addition to the mobile vans.
The number of services to be extended to an extra 1,000 e-Sahulat franchises has also been selected, thus now citizens are able to access the NADRA services in about 3,000 e-Sahulat centers across the country.
The services offered in these centers are:
Issuance of B-Forms to children (to the age of ten).
Expired National Identity Cards Renewed.
Getting a copy card in case of misplaced cards.
One should cancel identity cards of deceased family members.
These extended services operate both in large urban centers, such as Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Peshawar and Quetta, and in many districts of Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azar Jammu and Kashmir.
This project will help minimize the number of people on the ground and long lines at the traditional NADRA offices and take the much needed registration services to the people who require them the most.
