Recently, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) released a significant update on the issuance of Child Registration Certificate, which is commonly referred to as B-Form. In a bid to strengthen identity verification and improve national records, NADRA has implemented a new process which requires parents to acquire three separate B-Forms for their children at various stages in their life.
If you are a parent and want to know how these new regulations impact you and your child, here is an overview of the three-stage process, the new biometric requirements and how to apply.
The 3 Stages of the New NADRA B-Form
Under the new system, one B-Form will no longer be valid from birth to adulthood. Instead, that document will be released in three separate phases with different validity periods and identification features.
At Birth
When to get it: Right after birth.
Requirements: Parents should have registered the child’s birth at the local Union Council within one month and apply for this original B-Form.
Features: This first B-Form will be released without a child’s photo.
Validity: This will only be valid till the age of 3.
Above Age 3
When to get it: After Turning 3 Years Old
Features: As a child’s facial features are becoming more defined at that age, this revised B-Form will include photographs.
Good until: This version is the same as this will be valid until 10 yr.
Above Age 10
When to get it: After the child’s 10th birthday.
Features: This is your biggest update. The third B-Form will carry the child’s photograph, fingerprints and an iris scan.
Validity: This final B-Form will act as the child’s identity document until they reach age 18
Why Are Iris Scans Being Introduced by NADRA?
NADRA is introducing iris scans for children aged over 10 as part of a wider technological overhaul. Recently, the authority introduced to its current biometric verification methods (which previously only included matching fingerprints and facial images) the Iris Recognition System.
This sophisticated technology offers improved citizen de-duplication and identity protection. The Iris recognition system has been enabled at selected points in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi with phased deployment planned to cover all 700 NADRA registration centers across the country.
How to Apply and Renew Your Child’s B-Form
NADRA strongly recommends that parents expeditiously carry out the B-Form renewal well before each validity period elapses to avoid any administrative hassle. Especially when it comes to school admissions, where updated identification is often needed, getting the update on the document is critical.
There are two easy options for parents to apply and renew:
In-Person: Go to the nearest NADRA registration center with your child and update their picture and biometrics.
Online: Download the official Pak-ID mobile application and apply from the comfort of your home.
By knowing ahead of time what you need to do in each stage here and when, parents can keep their children’s official identities safe and valid without scrambling at the last minute.
