The date and time of the historic first round of US-Iran peace talks between the United States and Iran will now officially be known to have been hosted in Islamabad as confirmed by the White House. This important diplomatic intervention after a decision to cease fire in the region, albeit on a two-week basis, brought both countries back to the edge of a more destructive and far-reaching confrontation in the region. The forthcoming talks are one of the major milestones in the international relations that will be greatly enabled through the intervention of Pakistan.
High-Level US Delegation to Arrive in Pakistan
As stated by the official press releases by White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, a high profile American delegation is being sent to Pakistan to hold important face-to-face talks. The much-awaited negotiations have been set to start in the morning of Saturday, April 11, probably at the safe Serena Hotel. As a show of the heavy burden Washington is placing on this initiative, special envoy Steve Witkoff will lead the US team which will include Jared Kushner and Vice President JD Vance.
The Ceasefire and Pakistan’s Crucial Mediation
These future talks will be based on a weak temporary truce which was facilitated with a lot of diplomatic intervention by Pakistan. When tensions grew threateningly because of the blockading of the critical Strait of Hormuz by Iran, the US President Donald Trump was allegedly on the verge of initiating a far-reaching military strike until a very strict deadline. Nevertheless, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif went to the frontline to urge the American leaders to give diplomacy a chance and demanded a two-week extension to avoid further tightening. President Trump later verified the freeze, which led to face-to-face discussions in the Pakistani capital.

Expected Agenda for US-Iran Peace Talks
In his two weeks ceasefire, President Trump said that Washington is willing to collaborate with Iran to address the roots of problems. Both parties will likely put key economic and geopolitical issues on the table, such as potential tariff relief and the possibility of lifting crippling international sanctions.
Although this diplomatic breakthrough has occurred, the entire regional atmosphere is very volatile. The US-Iran ceasefire is not applicable to its current military attacks on Lebanon as declared by Israel. The Iranian authorities have in turn expressed grave apprehensions over these ongoing military drills threatening to bring the whole truce to the brink and abort the Islamabad peace negotiations.
