The construction of the new flyover at Azeempura Interchange has officially begun to upgrade the city’s infrastructure and make commuting to and from the city without a traffic signal possible. This project is an essential part of the development of Shahrah-e-Bhutto expressway. The scale of the work has necessitated the Traffic Police Karachi to introduce a detailed Karachi Traffic Diversion Plan to control the flow of traffic and minimise any inconvenience to the public.
Azeempura Interchange Construction and Road Closures
The Azeempura Flyover will ease the chronic congestion of commuters commencing towards Jinnah International Airport and Korangi. But there are a lot of road changes during the construction stage. According to official reports, Rita Plot Chowk has been completely closed to traffic from all four sides.
Furthermore, sections of Shahrah-e-Bhutto have had to be closed to traffic while the use of the heavy machinery for girder launching and the building of pillars has been going on. Drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance to prevent being caught up in congestion as a result of construction.
Alternative Routes for Airport and Shahrah-e-Faisal
The traffic police has set up a diversion at 2 Number Chowrangi for the commuters going to Shah Faisal Colony from the Airport and Shahrah-e-Faisal.
To Defence: Traffic is advised to use the EBM Causeway or the Baloch Colony Flyover to get to Defence and surrounding areas.
To Korangi: Motorists will no longer be allowed to use Shah Faisal Colony to get to Korangi. Instead, they’ll be required to take the Quaidabad route or the EBM Causeway for a smoother ride.
Travel Guidelines for Korangi and Defence Residents
The new Karachi Traffic Diversion Plan will see the cars travelling from the Singer Chowrangi and Korangi going towards Shahrah-e-Bhutto Interchange and then diverted to Defence.
If vehicles are found to enter the Airport from the Korangi and Defence side, they will be diverted to Malir immediately after they are out of Shahrah-e-Bhutto. From there, one can cross Malir Mandir Road to join Shahrah-e-Faisal which is the terminal road of the Airport.
Vehicle Restrictions and Safety Measures
The Karachi Traffic Police has also prohibited rickshaws, motorcycles, loader vehicles from using Shahrah-e-Bhutto during the digging process, considering it unsafe to have these vehicles as roads are being dug. The open lanes of this route may only be used by passenger cars or light vehicles.
