The Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) is a legal requirement for law graduates in Pakistan to become practicing lawyers. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan has officially announced the full calendar of tests for the year 2026 with the help of its Education Testing Council (ETC). The test is put in place to make sure that those entering the profession have the basic knowledge before they are formally enrolled by the provincial bar councils.

HEC Law-GAT 2026 Eligibility Criteria and Passing Marks
Candidates should make sure that they fulfill the following eligibility criteria of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) before applying:
Educational Qualification: The candidates must have an LLB Degree (or an equivalent foreign degree of Law) from a recognized University by HEC and Pakistan Bar Council.
Passing Score: 50%; the percentage of passing marks necessary to pass the Law-GAT exam.
Maximum Attempts: In accordance with the existing norms, the candidate may give a maximum of 5 attempts to pass the Law-GAT exam. The graduate will lose his/her five opportunities to pass the test and will not be able to get a bar council enrollment license if he/she does not pass the test in these five chances.
HEC Law-GAT 2026 Step-by-Step Online Registration Guide
All eligible candidates are required to apply online for the process. These are the verified steps to submit your form on HEC’s portal:
To create an Account: Go to the official HEC Education Testing Council website at etc.hec.gov.pk.
Fill out your profile with your personal details, add your academic credentials and submit a formal 3×4 size photograph. Make sure your progress in the profile is fulfilled to 100%.
Under Application: Click the “Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT)” tab and tick on the preferred Examination Centre (City) from the list provided.
Fill out the Application: Once you complete the application, you’ll find a unique consumer number on your dashboard, which you need to pay the Test Fee.
The Law-GAT registration fee is Rs. 3,000. You can pay this fee through your mobile banking application, EasyPaisa, or JazzCash using the 1Link 1Bill Invoice payment feature.
Final Submission: After payment go back to the HEC portal, click on “Verify Online Payment” and then click on “SUBMIT”. Applications that remain in “Save” or “Draft” will not be reviewed.
If you face any technical problems or errors in making a profile you can file a formal complaint from HEC Online Help Desk (onlinehelp.hec.gov.pk). Roll number slips containing your designated exam venue are typically uploaded to your ETC dashboard one week before the actual test date.
