In a historic move toward complete modernization, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed all federal ministries, divisions, and public departments to immediately abandon traditional paper-based workflows and migrate to the newly launched Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance system. This landmark directive follows the official inauguration of the Prime Minister’s Office System (PMOS) alongside Sky47, Pakistan’s largest centralized cloud data center. Speaking at a high-level review meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister made it clear that bureaucratic delays and the archaic culture of physical filing will no longer be tolerated under his administration.

A Strict Ultimatum for Federal Institutions

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered an unequivocal message to the country’s civil bureaucracy during the system’s operational briefing. “Moving forward, I do not expect to see any official carrying physical, paper files into my office; all inter-departmental correspondence, brief summary reviews, and strategic debates must occur within this secure, automated environment,” the Prime Minister asserted.

The technology ecosystem was designed with the obligation of the structural requirements in the Digital Nation Pakistan Act 2025 to centralize data from all levels of public administration. The government’s goal is to create a single digital ‘umbrella’ to achieve absolute transparency, better inter-agency information sharing and speed up the processing of national development projects by a factor of one thousand.

How the PMOS AI Platform Redefines Public Governance

While previous attempts at introducing “E-Office” models across Pakistan’s bureaucracy focused strictly on basic scanning or static document storage, this initiative marks the first comprehensive integration of AI in government operations. The system boasts several cutting-edge features designed to revolutionize administrative efficiency:

Intelligent Directive Tracking: AI algorithms are built-in to automatically read and apply meaning to the directives issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, and automatically categorize the same, recording them according to execution priority.

Real-Time Bottleneck Identification: The real-time overview of all official documents gives senior management a clear view of who in their organisation is causing delays.

Paperless Fiscal Savings: The flushing of high volume of administrative paperwork from the public sector means that millions of dollars are saved in paper, archiving and courier costs for the national treasury.

Data-Driven Analytics: By pairing top-tier cybersecurity protocols with advanced predictive analytics, the system offers institutional heads structured insights to help them make rapid, informed policy decisions.

Impact on Pakistan’s Tech Ecosystem and Economic Future

Under the leadership of Minister of State Shaza Fatima Khawaja with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication leading the way, this structural change will put Pakistan on a smart governance par with its international peers. The transition directly contributes to the state’s overall economic plan to invest $1 billion in AI by the year 2030.

The government’s move to a cloud-based system such as Sky47 eliminated red tape at an administrative level. The change for the average American is quicker approval of welfare programs, public grants and civic infrastructure projects. In addition, the PM endorsed efforts to expand this IT system and pledged to introduce national training programs to enhance the capabilities of the local youth in advanced AI tools, enabling the country’s economy to become an agile digital powerhouse.
