Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Norway, His Excellency Espen Barth Eide, today arrived in the Foreign Office, Islamabad this morning, 13 August 2026 for a significant diplomatic visit to strengthen the political, economic and strategic cooperation. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Mohammad Ishaq Dar gave a warm welcome to the visiting dignitary.

The high-level visit is significant for modern Pak-Norway relations with a view to examining bilateral relations, expanding new possibilities of trade, and discussing various global and regional issues of the day.

    Delegation-Level Bilateral Talks Commence

After the initial reception, the two leaders met in delegation level talks. The meetings brought together senior diplomats, officials from the foreign offices and policy makers from both countries. The extensive discussion covered all areas of bilateral cooperation, including economic cooperation and mutual support at international forums.

The meeting highlights the mutual interest of both cities in making the history of traditionally good relations into a solid economic sector focusing on green technology, trade improvement and sustainable development.

Core Focus Areas of the Strategic Dialogue

During the formal consultation sessions, both delegations assessed ongoing programs and proposed collaborative initiatives across several key structural pillars:

Trade and Economic Cooperation: Strategic evaluations on increasing bilateral trade volume, expanding market access, and encouraging Norwegian foreign direct investment into Pakistan’s tech and manufacturing sectors.

Climate Change and Renewable Energy: Harnessing Norway’s advanced expertise in green technology and renewable energy frameworks to aid Pakistan’s climate resilience and clean energy transition.

Information Technology and Education: Proposing framework upgrades to increase university student exchange programs and remote IT human resource utilization.

The Role of the Pakistani Diaspora in Norway

A vibrant Pakistani community living in Norway is one of the main pillars of strengthening Pak-Norway relations. The Pakistanis of Norway are a large and important socio-economic linkage between the two countries with tens of thousands of people.

Both foreign ministers recognized the tremendous role played by this diaspora in the Norwegian multicultural and economical life. The delegations agreed that they should explore the possibility of establishing simplified mechanisms to improve people-to-people contacts, facilitate legal migration channels and promote cultural exchanges to foster the development of long-term institutional relationships.
