Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given formal consent to a big monthly allowance of Rs70,000 to agriculture interns. This is a huge financial incentive in a wider provincial initiative that aims at bringing the young generation on board, incorporating modern technology and transforming the traditional farming industry in Punjab.
What is the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” Program?
The stipend shall be as such through the recently implemented program of Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar. With the help of this initiative, young specialists and agriculture interns will be connected to the farming industry directly. Other Major Agricultural Initiatives Introduced in Punjab
The provincial government also gave approval during the meeting on a number of other mega projects that would help in ensuring environmental sustainability and modernising farming:
Rooftop Hydroponic Farming: The government has firstly permitted hydroponic farming on rooftops in Punjab. Citizens are able to produce 280-350 plants on a space as small as two marlas using specially designed structures and polythene sheets. It will roll out ten pilot projects in Lahore in conjunction with local housing societies.
CM Green Tractor Program (Phase IV): Chief Minister gave the nod to the fourth phase of this popular program. The subsidy given on high horsepower tractors has been fixed at Rs1.5 million and those on low horsepower tractors has been raised by increasing its subsidy to Rs700,000-Rs500,000.
Solarization of Tube Wells: In order to reduce the amount of fuel consumed and to ensure environmentally friendly agriculture, the government will solarize 10,000 diesel tube wells throughout the province.
Punjab Agriculture mechanization project: The government intends to supply the state with 28000 super seeders by 2028. This will significantly enhance crop residue management and aid in smog and environmental pollution.
Rain Water Harvesting: Punjab has a first time experience of ground recharge wells on farms. These wells will be effective storage of rain water and overall water supply to agriculture.
