Animal welfare in Pakistan has taken a revolutionary leap forward with the launch of Woofy, the country’s first-ever dedicated mobile application for animal rescue. Officially launched on Sunday, the app is designed to bridge the gap between distressed animals and willing rescuers through technology.
Founded by animal welfare activists Yair Salman and Talha Chaudry, Woofy has been in development for a year and is now available to the public.
How Does an Animal Rescue App Work?
The core function of Woofy is to facilitate immediate reporting and rapid response. The interface is user-friendly, allowing anyone to report a case of an animal in need within minutes.
- Tap “Report Now”: Users start by clicking the green button on the home screen.
- Select Category: Choose the specific condition of the animal from three options: Injured, Abused, or Abandoned.
- Add Details: Upload a picture of the animal, pin the exact location, and provide a contact number.
- Additional Notes: Users can add specific details to help rescuers understand the situation better.
Key Features of Animal Rescue App
Woofy will not only be a reporting tool but also be an animal welfare ecosystem.
Separate Profiles: The application differentiates between Case Reporters and Rescuers and therefore it is simpler to find the right individuals.
Real-Time Dashboards:
- One dashboard tracks the status of rescued animals.
- The other helps manage reports and updates, ensuring transparency in the rescue process.
Vet Partnerships: Woofy has partnered with local veterinary clinics. This feature helps rescuers easily find nearby facilities, some of which offer discounts for rescue cases.
Future Plans: Animal Ambulance Service
The team behind Woofy has ambitious plans for the future. They are working on introducing a dedicated transportation service specifically for animal rescue. These vehicles will be equipped to transport animals and their rescuers to nearby vets safely.
Currently, Woofy is available for download on both the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android).
- Current Coverage: The service is currently active in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
- Expansion: The founders plan to expand operations to other major cities in Pakistan in the near future.
