Former TV actress Areej Fatyma, who now lives in the United States with her husband and their two young sons, has opened up about something she’s been keeping private for months. The news came as a shock to many of her fans. Areej said it was a few months ago when the doctors sat her down and told her — she had choriocarcinoma, a rare kind of cancer that can spread quickly if not caught in time.
Viewers know her from dramas like Hasad, Aap Ke Liye and Ishq Parast, but this time she wasn’t playing a role. She was telling her own story.
On Sunday evening, through an Instagram post, she finally spoke about it. She confessed she had spent weeks, even months, debating with herself over whether to make it public.
“Not everyone who follows you is happy for you when life is good,” she wrote. “And not everyone feels your pain when things fall apart.” That, she said, was one of the reasons she kept quiet for so long.
When she finally decided to speak out, Areej explained that her cancer had been caught at a very early stage — something she calls a huge blessing. In many cases, she said, it isn’t found until much later, when it’s far more dangerous.
In most cases, she said, it is discovered late. Areej described choriocarcinoma as a cancer that can spread quickly. It often develops after something called a molar pregnancy — a rare condition where tissue grows in the womb instead of a baby. In very rare situations, it can turn into cancer, which is what happened in her case.
Calling her recovery a “second life,” she encouraged people to take their health seriously, have regular checkups, and go to a doctor immediately if something feels wrong — instead of trying to treat themselves.
“Don’t take life and health for granted,” she said, ending her post by asking for prayers for herself and her family.
