There was a terrible scene at Babusar Top after sudden rain and a powerful cloudburst hit the area. In just minutes, water came rushing down and flooded parts of Chilas. Several tourist vehicles — over 15 were caught in the floodwater and washed away. Rescue workers have found five people dead. Four others made it out alive.
People are still missing. The teams are out there looking, but with rain and messed-up roads, it’s not going smoothly.

Locals and volunteers didn’t wait. They helped get over 200 tourists out. Some were stuck with nothing — no shelter, no transport — but nearby villagers just took them in.
In the Thak Babusar area, locals opened their homes to shelter over 100 people. Hotels and guest houses in the area have started letting tourists stay for free after what happened. People are being told not to travel unless they really have to.The situation on Babusar Road and the Silk Route is serious — around 20 locations have been damaged, and about 8 kilometers of road have been washed away.
Government teams have started handing out tents and food in the flooded areas. Some parts near the Karakoram Highway are still blocked — landslides made the roads nearly impossible to cross. On orders from the National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman, repair teams have been sent to clear the roads and restore access.
