The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has released a short video guide to help people in Pakistan who want to change their name on their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).

The video shows the complete process, step by step, from preparing documents to collecting the updated CNIC.

    Documents you will need:

Before visiting a NADRA centre, make sure you have the required documents ready:

    • You must have an official computerised birth certificate, issued by your local Union Council or the Cantonment Board, that clearly shows the name you want on your CNIC.
    • If you don’t have a computerised birth certificate, you can provide:
      • An affidavit on NADRA’s specified form (Form C1 for a B-Form or Form C2 for a CNIC).
      • If the name change is because of a conversion to a different religion, you’ll need to provide a confirmation certificate issued by Dar-ul-Ifta.

    How to apply:

    1. Visit your nearest NADRA centre and get a token.
    2. Wait for your turn and complete biometric verification.
    3. A NADRA staff member will record your information, scan your fingerprints, take your photograph, and then hand you a printout so you can review it for any errors before it’s submitted.
    4. The office in-charge will review and approve your application. They may also ask a few questions about your family.
    5. NADRA stated that for making changes to your CNIC, there is no requirement to have the form attested.

    Fee and processing time:

    • Executive service: Rs 2,500 – ready in 7 working days
    • Urgent service: Rs 1,500 – ready in 15 working days
    • Normal service: Rs 750 – ready in 30 working days
