Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) is the most important document of Pakistan which is issued by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The CNIC includes essential biographical details, such as the names of the parents.The inaccuracy in the name of the parent (as a result of either spelling or a wrong input of a name) may create a big problem in the education system, work, property transfer, and even the law courts. NADRA offers a defined procedure to make the corrections to the parent name in the CNIC.
Method to Correct Parent’s Name on CNIC
In the case you have to change the name of your father or mother in your CNIC, do the following:
- Go to the NADRA Registration Center (NRC)
- Collect a token, wait for your turn, and provide biometric verification.
- Inform the officer about the incorrect name and provide the correct version with accurate spellings.
- You may need to provide a new photograph and signature for record purposes.
- The officer will submit your correction request to the NADRA in-charge.
- Standard or urgent service fees apply, depending on the processing time you choose.
- After submission, a tracking slip is issued that can be used to check the CNIC correction status online or at the center.
- Once processed, you’ll be notified via SMS. The updated CNIC will be available for collection at the NADRA office.
Requirements to Correct Parent’s Name on CNIC
NADRA requires specific documents and biometric verifications to ensure authenticity:
- If Parents Are Alive:
- Biometrics of the father or mother whose name needs correction.
- Biometrics of the father or mother whose name needs correction.
- If One Parent’s Name Is Already Correct:
- Fingerprint authentication of a sibling with a CNIC showing the accurate parent’s name.
- Fingerprint authentication of a sibling with a CNIC showing the accurate parent’s name.
- If Both Parents Have Passed Away:
- Biometric testimony of at least two siblings whose CNICs reflect the correct parents’ names.
- Biometric testimony of at least two siblings whose CNICs reflect the correct parents’ names.
