The federal government has decided not to submit an amicus brief in the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui. Dr Afia Siddique is currently prisoned in the United States of America.

However the court was not satisfied with this decision and demanded a proper explanation. Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan who was presiding over the hearing stressed that important decisions especially those related to human rights and international legal matters cannot be made without giving reasons.

PK Govt showed up in IHC offering nothing in Aafia's case for a 3rd time today. Judge said advocacy for Aafia “needs to be taken to another level" or they might as well just "shut down this constitutional court” @Aafiamovement @mariakari1414 @FowziaSiddiqui

The hearing was held in response to a petition filed by Dr Fawzia Siddiqui, Dr Aafia’s sister who has been seeking updates on her sister’s health, legal support and efforts to bring her back to Pakistan.

Justice Khan questioned the government’s logic behind refusing to support the case in the U.S. courts. He said that simply announcing such a decision without any justification is not acceptable.

“This is a constitutional court and the government must be transparent and accountable. Every decision especially one involving a citizen’s rights, must be backed by clear reasoning,” Justice Khan stated.

The judge emphasized that the court expects full clarity from the government particularly in sensitive international cases like that of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
