Deletion of a WhatsApp group is a confusing process since WhatsApp has no option of enabling one to delete a group with a single click. First you need to get rid of the group and delete it, you need to leave the group by yourself. This guide details the way to delete a WhatsApp group as an administrator as well as the way to do it as a member on your device.
How to Delete a Whatsapp Group as an Admin
As the group admin, you may delete the group on behalf of everyone, but only in case you remove all the members.
Open the Group
- Open the WhatsApp group you want to delete.
- Tap the group name at the top to open Group Info.
Remove All Group Members
You must remove every participant before deleting the group.
To remove a member:
- Tap on the member’s name.
- Select Remove > Remove.
Repeat this for each member until only you remain.
Exit the Group
Once all members are removed:
- Scroll down in Group Info.
- Tap Exit Group.
- Confirm by selecting Exit.
Delete the Group
After exiting:
- Tap the group in your chat list.
- You will now see the option Delete Group.
- Tap Delete Group and confirm.
Your WhatsApp group is now permanently deleted.
How to Delete a WhatsApp Group as a Member
If you are not the admin, you cannot delete the group for everyone; you can only delete it from your device.
- Open the WhatsApp group chat.
- Tap the group name to open Group Info.
- Scroll down and tap Exit Group.
- After exiting, go back to your Chats tab.
- Tap and hold the group chat.
- Tap Delete and confirm.
The group will be removed from your device, but it will continue to exist for other members.
