The Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2025 by the National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control has been passed unanimously in a legislative development.
It is a milestone to the passage of the bill as the committee has recommended that the National Assembly pass the bill and it will be the best move towards amending the citizenship laws in the country.
Meeting Agenda and Major Participants
This was the decisive meeting that was held at the Parliament House which was chaired by MNA Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz.
The meeting was attended by the key legislators and top officials of various vital government departments and an all-inclusive review was done on the proposed bill. Notable attendees included:
Departmental leaders of the Ministry of Interior.
Delegates of the Ministry of Law and Justice.
Officials of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
The Director General of Passports.
Other Legislative Business
The same session saw the committee examining the Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2025. But upon taking up the subject, the debate on this bill was adjourned to the next meeting to enable further consultation.
The Pakistan Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2025 is now to be tabled before the entire team of the National Assembly with the approval of the Standing Committee. Upon its approval by the assembly, it will be sent to the Senate and then finally the President who will give his final approval and make it a law.
