Peshawar Zalmi bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has openly admitted that the team may have made a mistake by bringing young opener Saim Ayub back into the playing field too quickly after his injury.

Saim had a strong start in PSL 10 by scoring a fifty in his very first match. But since then his form has dipped and he has not been able to perform consistently. Currently Zalmi sits at fifth place in the points table.

Mushtaq Ahmed shared in a recent interview that Saim should have been given more time and proper match practice before jumping back into high-level PSL games.

“Just practicing in the nets is not enough when a player is returning from injury,” said Mushtaq. “He needed real match time to get his rhythm back.”

He added that the coaching team should have arranged a few low pressure club or practice matches to help Saim ease back into the game. But unfortunately that step was missed.

To give some context Saim Ayub had suffered an ankle injury during Pakistan team tour of South Africa. Doctors recommended a six month break for recovery and he went to the UK for rehabilitation. Because of the injury Saim missed two important series, the Champions Trophy 2025 and the white ball series against New Zealand.

He was declared fit just before PSL 10 began on April 11.
