The Punjab government has declared that it will soon commence the second phase of free laptops distribution to the students. The purpose of this program is to ensure that young learners gain better access to digital learning and new technologies.
This will be purely a merit-based award and according to the Higher Education Department , some of the funds will be distributed next month. A full-fledged program has already been designed and Chief Minister Punjab is expected to formally open the scheme during the first or second week of September through a mega-event.
During the initial stage of this program, approximately 14,000 laptop computers were given out to the students in Lahore. That project was appreciated and was useful to students in their studies. Following this success, in the second phase the scope of the scheme is now being widened to other districts of Punjab. This will guarantee that the opportunity is enjoyed by more deserving students especially those who lack access to personal computers at home.
The scheme contains a number of fundamental advantages to students. First, it shall enhance digital literacy and e-learning to provide hands-on exposure to technology by students. The laptops will enable them access and complete research, assignments and utilize online educational facilities in a simple manner. Secondly, it will serve to diminish the divide between underprivileged and privileged students since equal access to digital tools will be given. Above all, the scheme will also promote academic excellence among the students who strive hard to perform well, since the laptops will be shared according to merit.
The Punjab government laptop distribution scheme is generally a positive move in helping to increase access to higher education, in providing digital inclusion to the people, and in resourcing the future generations towards the technology-driven future era.
