In a move aimed at providing direct financial relief to the public following recent fuel price hikes, the Sindh government has officially announced a new fuel subsidy scheme. The motorcyclists in the province can now qualify to receive flat Rs. R2,000 monthly petrol voucher.
This provincial program announced by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah in a recent press conference has a similar model by the federal government that was announced only the day before. Considering the economic pressure on the middle and lower-middle classes, the Chief Minister said that although the government had to take some tough decisions in relation to the economy, this subsidy is aimed at providing specific relief to the most in need.
In case you own a motorcycle and would like to take advantage of this monthly financial aid, this is all you should know about the eligibility requirements, the registration procedure, and the schedule of payments.
Eligibility Criteria for the Petrol Subsidy
In order to make this process transparent and avoid fraud, the government has established stringent conditions for persons who qualify to receive this subsidy. You have to satisfy the following requirements:
Type of Vehicle: you should own a motorcycle.
Registered Ownership: This motorcycle should be registered in your name.
Valid CNIC: You will be required to have a valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC).
Active Bank Account: You should be an active bank account holder with an active International Bank Account Number (IBAN) to get the money electronically sent to you.
Free Motorcycle Ownership Transfers
Recognizing that many citizens drive motorcycles purchased on open transfer letters without officially transferring the ownership, the Sindh government has announced a major facilitation step.
To help people qualify for the Rs. 2,000 petrol subsidy in Sindh, the government has abolished the motorcycle transfer fee. This means you can now legally transfer the bike into your own name without paying the usual excise transfer charges, allowing you to quickly become eligible for the monthly fuel relief.
