The Sehat Sahulat Health Card program has been officially revived by the federal government to cover millions of the population in Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Syed Mustafa Kamal, the Federal Health Minister, headed this decision by the National Steering Committee of the program. The revised project plan, worth around Rs. 40 billion, will remain active until June 30, 2027.
With this approval, health card services will restart from January 16, allowing eligible families to receive free medical treatment again. The meeting was attended by senior health officials, including the Health Secretary, Special Secretary Health, and the CEO of the Sehat Sahulat Programme.
The committee also decided to extend agreements with State Life Insurance Corporation and NADRA to ensure smooth service delivery. Outstanding dues will be cleared through government development funds.
The health minister stated that modern health insurance systems should be used in Pakistan rather than running hospitals directly to enhance quality and efficiency of healthcare. In March 2024 the program was temporarily discontinued because of the unpaid bills, which had impacted citizens of Islamabad, AJK, and GB. Today, there are millions of families who will once more benefit and get medical assistance with the revival of the Sehat Sahulat Health Card.
