If you are a student or worker in Pakistan planning to head to the UK, there is some big news. You might not need a visa sticker in your passport anymore.

The British High Commission has started a new online system that lets most people check their visa status digitally. It is meant to cut down on paperwork and make the whole process less of a hassle  especially for those applying to study or work in the UK.

Instead, their immigration status will be available online through a secure digital platform.

A Fully Digital and Secure System by British High Commission

British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, described the system as “secure, simple, and fully digital.” She explained that millions of people across the world are already using e-visas for various UK immigration routes, and now Pakistani applicants will benefit from the same ease and convenience.

“This shift will make the visa process smoother for students and workers,” she said. “Applicants will now be able to keep their passports with them while their applications are being processed — something that was not possible with traditional visa stickers.”

No Change to Visa Rules or Immigration Status

The High Commission has clarified that the introduction of e-visas will not change anyone’s immigration rights or the conditions of their stay in the UK.  The process hasn’t really changed — it’s just the way visas are now given and shown.

Instead of carrying printed documents, people will be able to show their visa status online — whether it’s at the airport, to an employer, or even a landlord. It’s expected to save time and make things simpler when moving around or getting settled in the UK.

Who Still Needs a Visa Sticker?

While this digital system is being adopted widely, there are still some categories where traditional visa stickers will be used. For now, dependents and visitor visa applicants will still need to receive physical visa labels in their passports.

The UK Home Office says it plans to roll out the e-visa system for all types of visas over time. The idea is to eventually move everything to a fully digital setup.

This shift could really help thousands of Pakistanis who apply every year, especially students and skilled workers. So overall, there’s going to be less paperwork, quicker handling, and people won’t have to carry printed visa documents anymore — just show their status online when needed.

The UK is trying to modernize how the immigration system works. It’s not just about speed, it’s also about making things easier, especially for places like Pakistan, where more people are choosing the UK for study and job opportunities.
