Sometimes it happens that you are out of the country and your passport gets stolen or misplaced. It certainly becomes a very stressful condition but you do not need to worry. Here I will explain to you what to do in such a state.
Stay Calm and Look Again
Sometimes we panic too fast. Take a deep breath and check your bags, hotel room, lockers, or safe carefully. Many passports are just temporarily misplaced.
Report to Local Police
If you are sure that it is lost or stolen then visit the nearest police station and file a report.
- Ask for a written police report or copy.
- This will be needed later when applying for a new passport or emergency travel document.
Contact the Nearest Pakistani Embassy or Consulate
Find the Pakistani Embassy or Consulate in the country you’re in and go there with:
- The police report
- A copy of your lost passport (if available)
- Your CNIC/NICOP or any ID
- Passport-size photos (take 4–5 just in case)
You can also contact them by phone or email. Find the address here:

Apply for a New Passport or Emergency Travel Document
At the embassy, you can apply for:
Emergency Travel Document (ETD):
If you have to return to Pakistan quickly, the embassy may issue you an ETD — a one-time document that lets you fly back home.
New Machine-Readable Passport (MRP):
If you’re staying longer abroad and want a proper passport, you can apply for a replacement MRP. It may take a few days or weeks depending on location.
