The Punjab Education Department has already completed its arrangements to amend the school time throughout the province as the winter season is near. Current sources indicate that the new school hours will apply from October 20, 2025 and will be in force until March 2026. The decision will help to adapt the hours spent in classes according to the shortening of the daylight hours in the colder seasons.
It is reported that the proposal has already been forwarded to Head of Government Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif to be given a final nod. Upon signing it will be officially adopted in all of public and private schools in Punjab. The new schedule will enable the students and the teachers to cope with the winter period more conveniently and still be able to stick to the academic continuity.
Nevertheless, within the last few days, social media had an outburst of fake news that the Punjab government had planned to cancel the weekend holiday every week. This caused confusion to the parents, students and the school administrators, as they now began to ask themselves whether they were now to conduct classes six days a week and not five.
The Education Minister of Punjab, Rana Sikandar Hayat made a clarification to overcome the situation pointing out that the weekly holiday schedule has not been changed.
He indicated categorically that all schools in the province will be in agreement to keep up with the observation of Saturdays as a holiday. The minister cautioned the people against taking unconfirmed news they see on the internet and reassured them that no such suggestion to abolish Saturday holidays had been negotiated and passed.
The department of education also made it clear that the official changes of the school policies will never be made without passing through the due governmental channels. Students will not have to worry, at least, not yet, that Saturday will be a holiday, even when the winter schedule changes.
