The Zakat Department has made a very important move towards social welfare by officially endorsing the roll out of the Widow Support Card which is a historic project meant to offer immense financial support to the widows on the streets.
Authorities have stated that the program would be implemented later in this month and would improve the lives of thousands of needy households facing the economic recession.
Eligibility Criteria for Widow Support Card
To qualify for the Widow Support Card, applicants must generally meet the standard “Mustahiq-e-Zakat” criteria. Although comprehensive procedural guidelines will be published with the actual rollout, the main requirements will be:
Marital Status: The applicant should be a widow and should have a valid Death Certificate of her husband.
Financial Position: She should not have a regular inflow of high income and should be qualified to receive Zakat.
How to Apply for a Widow Support Card?
Although the official application portal is projected to be launched later in the current month, it is recommended that the prospective candidates prepare their documents ahead of time.
Check at the Local Zakat Committee: The main check-up is normally done at the neighborhood or the Union Council by the Chairman of the local Zakat Committee.
Document Verification: Keep your CNIC, husband’s Death Certificate, and children’s B-Forms ready.
Card Issuance: Once approved, the Widow Support Card will likely be issued through a partner bank (such as the Bank of Punjab or Khyber Bank, depending on the province), allowing for transparent digital transfer of funds.
This is an initiative in a broad plan to establish a social safety net in women who have lost their primary breadwinners. The government seeks to give these women the means to begin small businesses, pay off short-term debts or even meet basic educational and health costs of their children by offering at least 100,000 as a base amount.
