Each FIFA world cup has its signature ball and the 2026 world cup will bear its own official match ball called Trionda. Trionda, the design of which was developed by Adidas, the manufacturer of all world cup balls since 1970, is a mixture of symbolism and technical innovation.
Design Inspired by Three Hosts
The 2026 World Cup is the first to be hosted by three nations — the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Trionda’s look reflects this partnership:
- Stars for the United States.
- Eagle for Mexico.
- Maple leaves for Canada.
- A triangle pattern symbolising unity among the three.
The ball’s colours — red, blue, and green — also highlight the host countries.
Technology That Sets It Apart
Trionda is not just visually striking; it also includes features to improve performance:
- Deep seams for better flight stability.
- Embossed icons for a stronger grip in humid conditions.
- An advanced motion sensor chip that tracks movement and provides data to the VAR system for fairer decisions.
A Symbol of Football’s Spirit
Trionda was launched in association with football super stars such as Zinedine Zidane, Cafu, Jurgen Klinsmann, Alessandro Del Piero and Xavi Hernandez. FIFA president Gianni Infantino referred to the ball as a symbol of the World Cup 2026 as a symbol of innovation and unity of the host countries.
As the tournament grows to 48 teams, Trionda will be front and centre of one of the largest sporting events in history – packed not only with technology, but also with the essence of a World Cup that honours diversity and a global bond.
