One of the biggest steps into a cleaner and smarter future that have been taken by the Punjab government is the introduction of the first AI-based digital assistant in Pakistan, the EcoBot, that will assist in monitoring the air quality and raise the awareness of the community about the health of the environment.
Salwat Saeed, the Secretary of the Environment Protection Department, says that EcoBot will be the communication channel between the citizens and the department. It enables individuals to have an immediate look at the Air Quality Index (AQI) of major cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi and Multan by just sending a simple message.
The system will operate on the basis of artificial intelligence, which can answer queries posed by users, provide real-time updates regarding AQI, and provide suggestions on how to remain safe on high-pollution days. It will also enhance the creation of awareness of green practices and good health.
According to the officials, this is a project that represents the vision of the Punjab government in terms of their modern technology usage to make the province cleaner, greener, and more sustainable.
Another initiative that is environment-oriented was introduced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on April 21, 2025, later this year. She posted the program on the social media platform X terming it as a milestone in the quest of Punjab to achieve environmental development.
This novel force employs the latest devices including drones, Live air quality sensors, and mobile labs to effectively address the issue of the environment.
The release of the EcoBot and the SMART Environment Protection Force can be viewed as evidence of the great desire of Punjab to combat air pollution and safeguard the health of citizens with the help of innovative and intelligent digital technologies.
