Lok Mela 2025 will make Islamabad colorful, musical and cultural once again. The ten day festival will be hosted in the Lok Virsa complex at Shakarparian and will be managed by National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage (Lok Virsa) and will be held between November 7 and 16.
A Cultural Diversity Pakistani Celebration
Lok Mela is a cultural festival in Pakistan which is among the most popular festivals and presents rich traditions, craftsmanship and music of the various regions of Pakistan. In this year, cultural pavilions of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkwabalochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir will take part.
Each pavilion will present the local crafts, traditional costumes, folk dances, live music and local foods that will offer the visitor the taste of cultural harmony and diversity of Pakistan.
Greater Internationalization
One of the special attractions this year will be the International Pavilion which will have representatives of 12 different countries as compared to last year. These foreigners will exhibit handicrafts, music and cultural expressions in their countries which will result in world cultural exchange.
The Federal Minister of National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khichi stated that the increase of foreign involvement is connected with the fact that Pakistan and its cultural heritage and creative industries became more visible in other regions of the world. He further added that Lok Mela is no longer a place where people-to-people relationships and cultural diplomacy is propagated.
Folk Music, Folk Storytelling and Workshops
The Lok Mela of 2025 is going to be an experience in cultural immersion. The event will include:
Traditional instruments and local musicians in folk music performances.
Story telling places and recounts of ancient stories and folklore.
Craft workshops, where one can be taught the skill of pottery, embroidery and other skills of that tradition right before his eyes by master artisans.
The food stalls will reflect the traditional Pakistani food, spicy Balochi sajji to Sindhi biryani, Punjab halwa puri and the common pashtun chapli kebab.
Transparent and Reliable Environment
Lok Virsa authorities admitted that everything is ready in terms of security and crowd control. Islamabad roads that were formerly blocked due to the happenings in the city are now accessible and it is easy to access the venue of the festival.
Authorities have also emphasized that this year the event would be child friendly with special seating space, rest area and cultural corners to host the children and the family.
Over Four Decades of Cultural Celebration
Since Lok Mela was inaugurated in 1981, the event has been used as a beacon of national unity and cultural pride uniting artisans and performers of all corners of Pakistan. The festival still plays a crucial role in offering an important platform to the folk artists, craftsmen, and musicians to display their talents and support their culture.
Thousands of people and among them foreign tourists, diplomats, students and people interested in the culture are expected to be the visitors of the 2025 Lok Mela, who will be happy to see the mosaic of the Pakistani traditions in color.
