The Government of Pakistan has revealed a huge project to enhance the digital economy of the country providing interest free loans of up to Rs. 10 million. The initiative is called National Co-Working Space Program (NCSP), and it is aimed at supporting freelancers, startups, and digital professionals in building modern workspaces in the nation.
According to this program, the government will establish over 250 co-working centers of a minimum of 100 seats. These facilities will offer quality infrastructure and facilities to enhance productivity, cooperation, and innovation. It will be run by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) on a model of partnership with the privates with the target of turning Pakistan into a worldwide freelancing hub.
The NCSP should be timely considering the fact that millions of young Pakistanis are without occupation or education or training. The program aims to promote entrepreneurship and digital inclusion by offering freelancers and startups affordable and well-equipped spaces. Not only will these co-working hubs be physical offices but also skill development centres, networking and knowledge sharing.
The applicants are given the opportunity to establish new co-working spaces or turn the existing buildings into NCSP centers. Potential areas would be underused publicly owned or privately owned buildings. The interest-free loan will be offered in the Youth Loan Scheme of the Prime Minister or in any commercial banks of choice. After the approval, it will be the responsibility of the applicants to create, run, and sustain their centers.
This project will go a long way in helping the freelance and startup population in Pakistan. The government is hopeful that the availability of affordable and easy working conditions would empower the young professionals and encourage digital entrepreneurship in the country and enhance the status of the country in the digital market.
