Samsung has officially launched its first-ever triple-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, during a special event in Seoul on December 2, 2025. Promoters showcased the new device at a Samsung store, giving people a first look at this unique and futuristic phone. But despite the excitement, this new model is clearly not meant for the average buyer.
The Galaxy Z TriFold will be available for purchase starting December 12, and its price is extremely high — $2,443, which is more than double the cost of the new iPhone 17. Samsung says the device is super thin and unfolds into a 10-inch display, giving users more space for creativity, work, and multitasking.
This isn’t the world’s first triple-fold smartphone. China’s Huawei released a similar model last year, also with a very high price tag. With smartphone sales slowing down globally, companies are trying to attract attention with bold and innovative designs like this one.
Samsung’s new phone comes only in black, weighs 309 grams, and at its thinnest point is less than 0.2 inches. It also includes built-in generative AI features, which can offer real-time assistance through screen sharing or camera sharing — something aimed at boosting productivity.
However, Samsung has openly admitted that the Galaxy Z TriFold is “not intended for mass sales.” According to Kim Seong-eun, Executive Vice President at Samsung Electronics, this is a special-edition product, designed more to showcase innovation than to generate huge sales numbers.
The release also coincides with the industry data that indicates that Apple could become the leading brand of smartphone in the world in the first time in 14 years, possibly by 2029. It is also believed that Apple is in the process of developing its foldable iPhone with possible release as soon as next year.
Counterpoint Research estimates that the global smartphone market share of Apple will be 19.4 percent in 2025, and that of Samsung will be 18.7 percent, giving Apple a slight edge.
