Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced one significant development in the forthcoming season of the Pakistan Super League. This will be the first time in league history that the tournament will take the form of PSL 11 player auction based instead of the traditional draft system.
PCB termed the move as a historic move with ten successful seasons behind its back, it would increase the competitiveness, transparency, and opportunities to earn by the players in the entire league.
Why PCB Introduced the PSL 11 Player Auction
According to PCB, the PSL 11 player auction is designed to create better balance between franchises. The new format will allow teams to bid openly for players instead of picking through a closed draft process.
The board said the change will increase transparency, give players higher market value, and make squad building more competitive for all franchises.
Retention Rules Under PSL 11 Player Auction
The new PSL 11 player auction system permits each franchise to have up to four players, only one of each category.
In the past, each team could have up to eight players in addition to mentors, brand ambassadors and the Right to Match (RTM) option. For PSL XI, the rules for mentors, brand ambassadors, and RTM have been removed completely.
Newly added teams will also be allowed to pick and retain four players from the available pool before the auction begins.
