Many young talents in Sindh have often struggled to realise their potential of playing cricket at a national level due to either geographical limitations or being away from bigger sports centers. But thanks to a revolutionary plan by the Sindh government, that could be about to change. Whilst the Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar, has called for a merit-based selection process for the Sindh team to play the Pakistan Cup – it begins with a WhatsApp message.
While Sindh is a cricketing hub, the talent in rural Sindh often goes unnoticed. To overcome this challenge, the government has devised a “Digital Scouting” strategy. This provides transparency and takes talent directly to selectors and the provincial administration, cutting out the middle men.

Digital Scouting: The WhatsApp Revolution
The most radical element of this policy is going digital with trials. Players no longer have to travel hundreds of kilometres to Karachi and Hyderabad for trial camps.
How to Apply:
Show Your Ability: Cricketers need to send a one-minute clip of their best batting or bowling.
Provide Details: Include your full name, division (Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad) and mobile number.
Share on WhatsApp: WhatsApp the Sindh Sports Department’s official number.
All applications will be assessed by a technical committee and the top performers will move on to the next round: physical trial camps.
Divisional Trials and the Merit-First Policy
After the online assessment, the Sindh government will hold physical trial camps in all the divisions. Minister Mehar stressed the need to be “inclusive” so as to meet and nurture all talented young people, regardless of their background. The competition itself is under the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) but the Sindh Sports Department will be responsible for all arrangements and facilities for the provincial team.
This is a first for a provincial government to be so involved and using technology for talent identification on such a large scale.

Pakistan Cup 2026: Preparing for Victory
Time is ticking for the Pakistan Cup scheduled to start in late May or early June 2026. The committee is looking to create a “winning team” for Sindh. Players will participate in top-level training camps with foreign coaches. This program is especially important as it seeks to keep local players from leaving the province or country for other leagues.
