Mechanism of the Subsidy and Financial Distribution
According to official details released by the authorities, this rental subsidy is specifically designed for growers who adopt modern Super Seeder technology for crop sowing and harvesting. The government is offering a financial incentive of Rs. 5,000 per acre. This benefit can be availed by a single farmer for 5 acres of cultivated land and the total cash assistance makes an impressive cash value of Rs. 25,000 per farmer. This direct cash transfer is intended to move the traditional farmers from outdated manual farming systems to making extensive use of eco-friendly and modern machinery.
Combatting Smog and Environmental Benefits
Every year in Punjab, the traditional practice of burning paddy straw (crop residue) after the rice harvest triggers a massive environmental crisis, blanketing Lahore and surrounding cities in toxic smog. The Super Seeder machine completely eliminates the need for crop burning. Instead of setting residues on fire, the machine shreds the stubble and buries it deep into the soil while simultaneously sowing wheat seeds. This process significantly enriches soil fertility with organic matter and protects the atmosphere from hazardous air pollution. This is precisely why the government is backing this technology with cash incentives.
Eligible Districts and Registration Process
This is a customized initiative that is being implemented in 23 specific districts of Punjab which have been traditionally affected by the seasonal smog. Major regions are Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Lahore, Multan, Sahiwal, Vehari and Bahawalpur. All farmers who are interested in benefiting from the rental scheme are required to register online via the official Punjab Agriculture Department portal as well as possess owned land in any area listed above.
