With the 774th anniversary of Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar coming near, there has been a lack of clarity over whether or not to have a public holiday on the 7th of February, 2026 in Sindh.
Whereas a local holiday has been confirmed in one particular district, the provincial government has actually refuted rumors of a province-wide school and college shutdown.
Another Holiday Announced by Sindh?
A local holiday is officially declared by the District Administration of Jamshoro concerning the local holiday of Saturday, February 7, 2026, so that the devotees can visit the Urs in Sehwan Sharif.
This ruling granted by the Deputy Commissioner, Ghazanfar Ali Qadri himself is tightly restricted to the district in which the shrine is situated so as to provide easy administrative and security practices.
Are Sindh Schools Closed?
On social media, there was a notification that the Sindh Education Department had announced a holiday to all schools and colleges in the province on Feb 7. This is fake.
Minister of Education Sindh, Syed Sardar Ali Shah has outright refuted those rumours. He clarified that:
The viral message which is said to belong to the School Education Department is a fake, misleading one.
Educational institutions do not have a provincial holiday.
The schools in Karachi, Hyderabad (outside Jamshoro) and other districts will continue as usual.
774th anniversary of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar
Jamshoro holiday is the start of the 774th anniversary Urs of the holy Sufi saint, Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. The shrine is situated in Sehwan Sharif and thousands of followers are projected to visit the shrine all over Pakistan. The district administration has already attracted security plans to manage the enormous number of pilgrims that is bound to attend the celebrations that are going to last three days.
