FAQS
Are the times of Fiqh Hanafi (Sunni) or Fiqh Jafaria (Shia) different?
Of course, there is a variation in the time of the Sehri and Iftar between the two schools of thought. Fiqh Jafaria observes a few minutes less Sehri time than that of Fiqh Hanafi and Iftar time starts around 10 to 12 minutes after sunset (when the reddening effect of the sky is totally overshadowed). The above calendar is calculated using Fiqh Hanafi.
Do they also fit the times of adjacent regions of Faisalabad (such as Jaranwala, Samundri, etc)?
The calendar is specially drawn basing on the physical location of the Faisalabad city. It might have a slight variation of 1 to 2 minutes localities and tehsils. Thus, to be on the safe side, you should also listen to the messages your local mosques make.
What should I do if there is a difference between the sound of the Azaan and the calendar time?
Timing of fasting has been strongly regulated on the basis of rising and setting of the sun and not the sound of Azaan. When the Sehri time has passed as per the calendar then you are not supposed to eat and drink any more even before you have heard the Azaan. In the same way, you must be able to break your fast immediately the exact Iftar time comes.
Why does the time of the Sehri and Iftar vary daily?
The schedule of Sehri (Subh-e-Sadiq) and Iftar (sunset) are all different and rely on the position of the sun. Since the time of sunrise and sunset varies each day as the earth rotates on its axis and seasons change positions, the time of the day in the calendar will also be different.
