This is a big reason to rejoice among the cricket fans in South Punjab, as Multan Sultans seem to be in the offing of making a comeback to the Pakistan Super League (PSL). This is a major franchise identity change that is already underway before the 2026 season and it is preparing to bring back one of the most popular brands of the league.

    The Sialkot to Multan Transition

The push for this comeback follows a major ownership shake-up surrounding the newly established Sialkot franchise.Initially, the Sialkot team (named Sialkot Stallionz) was awarded to OZ Developers during the league’s recent expansion process. However, after the developers reportedly ran into financial troubles, a transfer of control was triggered. CD Ventures, led by Gohar Shah, has now acquired a near-total stake in the franchise, effectively taking over its operations before the team even plays its first PSL match.

    Why the Sudden Identity Switch?

The new ownership (CD Ventures) will not have to create a new brand (Sialkot Stallionz brand) but re-establish an identity that has huge market recognition. They have officially asked Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to change the name of the franchise to Multan Sultans.

Multan Sultans is a new brand which was recently being introduced following the ownership change of the former franchise with the same name that was being operated under the name Walee Technologies and changed to the new name of the Rawalpindi franchise. This created the perfect opening for CD Ventures to pick up the Multan branding.

    Official PCB Announcement Expected Soon

The Pakistan Cricket Board is reportedly reviewing the formal request. PSL CEO Salman Naseer recently indicated that the league will make an official announcement regarding the franchise’s final ownership and identity very soon, officially confirming the return of the Multan franchise to the tournament.

    FAQs

Are Multan Sultans coming back to the PSL?

Yes, it is highly likely. CD Ventures, the new owners of the Sialkot franchise, have formally asked the PCB to rebrand their team as Multan Sultans for the 2026 season.

What happened to the original Sialkot Stallionz?

The original owners of the Sialkot franchise (OZ Developers) faced financial difficulties, leading CD Ventures to acquire the team. The new management prefers the established Multan brand over starting fresh with Sialkot.

Why did the previous Multan Sultans change their name?

The previous Multan Sultans franchise was rebranded to Rawalpindi following an ownership transition involving Walee Technologies, leaving the Multan name vacant and available for use.
