Daily commute in Karachi is getting an upgrade, and hopefully a much-needed one. If you frequently commute between Gulshan-e-Maymar and Tower, get ready for a much easier journey. Senior Minister for Transport, Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon has taken a significant step towards improving the People’s Bus Service in the city by introducing a new electric bus route. This new service fits within the local goal to provide locals a comfortable ride while also bringing Karachi closer to a green and modern transit system.

A new milestone for public transport in Karachi !

The Route Details You Need to Know

Having delivered the buses, the provincial government didn’t miss a beat in putting their new fleet of electric buses on the road. Here’s what you need to know if you want to catch a ride:

Where it goes: The buses run on a straight route between Gulshan-e-Maymar and Tower. Where it goes: The route is up and running as of today, March 17, 2026. Why it’s important: This particular route was determined to provide a direct connection from a huge residential area to the city’s busy commercial district.

The goal is to save thousands of people the daily headache of multiple transfers and traffic stress.

Better for Your Wallet, Better for the Air

What does the bigger picture look like with these new buses? The Sindh government, according to Memon, is keen on providing Karachiites a sound travel alternative that is not only viable but also affordable.

But getting back to just saving money on fares, swapping out these older, noisy vehicles for quiet electric buses is a huge win-win for the environment. By developing the EV network, this city is making concrete moves to reduce heavy fog now, minimize its CO2 footprint, and ultimately give locals a mode of transit they can genuinely be excited for.

What is the new electric bus route in Karachi?

The newest addition to the People’s Bus Service runs between Gulshan-e-Maymar and Tower.

Is the new bus route active right now?

Yes, the buses officially hit the roads and started taking passengers on March 17, 2026.

Why is Karachi focusing on electric buses?

It is a two-part plan: first, to give people a cheaper, safer, and more comfortable way to get to work. Second, electric buses drastically cut down on the city’s air and noise pollution.
