Getting admission to a top public sector university is a big moment for any Pakistani family and right now thousands of students across Lahore and beyond are refreshing their screens for the Punjab University admission portal. The second merit list 2026 is finally out and it has a tight deadline that students can’t afford to miss.
What is there on the Second Merit List
The University of the Punjab released its 2nd merit list on 13th August 2026 for regular undergraduate programs for the academic session 2026-27. This list is for the candidates of the BS 1st Semester and BS 5th Semester regular programs seeking admission. If your name is listed this time, congratulations, but the real work begins now, as PU is strict about deadlines.
Why is August 17 so special?
Students whose names appear in this list are required to complete their admission formalities and deposit the dues required within banking hours by 17th August 2026. This is a firm deadline. Not turning up can mean losing your place altogether and this then gets offered to someone further down the list. This short time frame can be stressful for families with limited budgets or living outside Lahore. It is better to plan the bank visit a day in advance than to rush on the last date.
Quick Checklist for Chosen Students
•You can check your status in the official PU admission portal with your application number.
•Please note your specific program and semester when you visit the bank.
•Go to the selected bank branch during its business hours and not after it is closed.
•Keep the original deposit slip and admission documents for verification.
•If you can pay your deposit a day early, on August 16, please do so to avoid the rush.
What If You Haven’t Been Selected Yet
Not everyone makes it to the second list, which is perfectly normal. Punjab University will release its third merit list on August 19, its fourth on August 24, and if seats are still left, its fifth and final list on August 28, 2026. Students enrolled in Self-Supporting, Afternoon, Evening and Replica programs follow a slightly different schedule and have their own lists issued separately.
A Word About Local Reality
Applicants from the smaller cities of Punjab where banking hours and travel time are more significant than they are for students already in Lahore, are many. Rather, families should consider the dues deadline a priority, non-negotiable task, not something to be squeezed in between other errands.
The Conclusion
Many are cheered by the second merit list, but the real challenge is to beat the clock. “Reserve your seat by August 17th. Missed this round? Be patient and keep an eye out for the next lists rolling out through late August.
