Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that a Chinese company will install electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout Sindh. This initiative was confirmed during his visit to the headquarters of Chinese automaker Chery in Wuhu China alongside Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

According to Memon, the charging stations will be placed every 50 kilometers across all districts of Sindh.  He added that, “Our goal is to encourage the use of electric vehicles as a clean alternative, which will also create new job opportunities for local communities”.

He also stated that an EV mini truck assembly plant is currently under development in Karachi. This step is expected to make electric vehicles more accessible and affordable for the average consumer.

Energy Minister Nasir Shah also shared updates on renewable energy efforts. He said that Chinese investors are showing strong interest in solar energy projects in the province.

In a related development, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a big reduction in the tariff for EV charging stations. The basic tariff has been lowered from Rs 45.55 to Rs 23.57 per unit following a request by the federal government. Additionally NEPRA has removed the capped margin of Rs 24.44 on EV charging stations making it more viable for businesses to invest in this growing sector.
