LAHORE – An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore has announced verdicts in two major cases linked to the May 9 riots, including the attack on Jinnah House and the arson incident near Shadman police station.
The decisions were delivered by ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill inside Kot Lakhpat Jail. Some accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence, while others received lengthy prison terms.
In the case involving the attack on the Corps Commander’s residence in Lahore’s Jinnah House—where several vehicles were set on fire—the court acquitted former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and six others: Sohail Khan, Awais, Rafiuddin, Farid Khan, Salman Ahmed, Abdul Qadir, and Faizan.
In the same case, PTI leaders including Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhary, Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, and Omar Sarfraz Cheema were handed 10-year rigorous jail terms. Aisha Bhutta was also given the same sentence.
In another case related to an attack and arson at Shadman police station, the court once again acquitted Shah Mehmood Qureshi, this time alongside 11 others, including Sohail Khan, Awais, Rafiuddin, Farid Khan, Salman Ahmed, Abdul Qadir, Faizan, Tayyab Sultan, Shahid Baig, Majid Ali, and Bakht Rawan.

Two PTI leaders—Alia Hamza and Sanam Javed—were convicted in this case and handed five-year prison sentences each.
On July 22, in another May 9-related case involving arson and vandalism, the same ATC sentenced Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mehmood ur Rasheed, and Senator Ejaz Chaudhary to 10 years in prison while acquitting Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The court had also cleared Hamza Azim and five others of all charges in that case.
The court has now also pronounced its reserved verdict in the Sherpao Bridge rioting case from May 2023, which occurred after the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan. In that case, Ali Hassan, Afzal Azeem, Khalid Qayyum, Riaz Hussain, and former Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema were each sentenced to 10 years in prison.
