Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has officially launched the second phase of the Green Tractor Scheme, bringing big relief and happiness for farmers across the province.
On Sunday, a computerized draw was held where 9,500 tractors were allotted to farmers. In a personal gesture, CM Maryam Nawaz even called some of the winners herself to congratulate them.
Who is eligible for Green Tractor Scheme 2025
The Agriculture Department states that any farmer with seven or more acres of land may apply to get a tractor with a horsepower of 75-125 horsepower.
- High-power tractors (75–125 HP) come with a subsidy of Rs. 1 million.
- Medium-power tractors (50–65 HP) get a subsidy of Rs. 500,000.
In total, the scheme will provide 20,000 tractors to farmers across Punjab.
Farmers’ Response
The program received a massive response. Out of 734,000 applications, around 282,000 farmers were found eligible for the draw. Interestingly, 98% of applicants preferred locally made tractors, showing farmers’ confidence in domestic production and giving a boost to Pakistan’s tractor industry
Maryam Nawaz claimed the plan is not only concerned with subsidies, but also about providing the farmers with modern machinery to help them achieve more productivity. She had said that her government will be committed to support the farming community, and grant a brighter future to the agriculture of Punjab.
Free Tractors Scheme
In the past, CM Maryam Nawaz also introduced the Punjab Wheat Incentive Program according to which 1,000 tractors were received free of charge on the basis of a digital ballot. The selected farmers were each given a tractor (55 HP) and one of the female farmers, who became the first recipient of a tractor, was Kausar Parveen of Bahawalnagar.
Other successful applicants such as Muhammad Iqbal of Jhang and Salman Ahmed of Mandi Bahauddin were personally congratulated by her.
