Rockstar Games has announced the Grand Theft Auto VI release date but it has been delayed to May 26, 2026.
The game from Rockstar was set to be released in Fall 2025 but the company admitted in a statement on their website that they would need an extension to meet the quality fans are used to see. Developers said they are working to live up to these expectations and that they appreciate the love and patience of the community.
“We know this is longer than you were hoping, but going to accurately balance the fun, surprise and jeopardy of satisfying every emotion in a game you can play alone or with friends. The excitement around GTA VI has been amazing and we want to deliver something truly special,” Rockstar wrote.
The delay comes after the first trailer was dropped in December 2023 which confirmed a return to Vice City and introduced Lucia, the first female protagonist in the GTA series. The story is rumored to be inspired by Bonnie and Clyde.
Since that trailer Rockstar has been quiet. There has not been any major update or gameplay footage. But the good news is the company promises to share more info soon.
Meanwhile the hype has not slowed down. Even after 11 years GTA V is still breaking records by recently topping Twitch most watched games list in 2024.
